The Department of Psychology conducted an awareness program in observance of World Suicide
Prevention Day, with the purpose of sensitizing the student body to this poignant issue on 11 th
September 2023.
Suicide Prevention Day, a global observance is held on September 10th each year, the theme
“Creating Hope through Action” was adopted for the year 2023.
Mrs. Joan Tirzah, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, delivered the opening
remarks, during which she elucidated the underlying rationale for observing Suicide Prevention
Day, and shed light on various pertinent aspects of the concern.
Students of department of Psychology orchestrated the program, imparting insights into the
causes, warning indicators, and factual aspects of suicide. They brought the subject to life with a
skit highlighting society’s role in suicide prevention and mental health promotion. Moreover,
students shared practical techniques to address and prevent suicidal tendencies.
In closing, Dr. V. Muthamilan, Principal delivered thought-provoking remarks. He voiced
concern over the rising rates of suicide across different age groups, emphasized the sanctity of
life, and encouraged students to actively engage in combating such societal challenges.
The program concluded with a poignant display of hand-written slogans by the students.
